Healthcare Payments via ACH Volume Grows to More Than 13 Million Transactions through November

According to the latest data, more than 6 million Healthcare Payments via ACH (NACHA CCD+ Addenda) were processed through the ACH Network in November 2013. Healthcare Payments via ACH, which were enabled by recent NACHA Rules amendments, transferred a corresponding $27.2 billion, which amounts to an average of $4,406 per payment transaction. Since the Rules amendments became effective on September 20, 2013, the ACH Network has processed more than 13 million Healthcare Payments via ACH totaling almost $60 billion.

The NACHA Rules amendments that enable Healthcare Payments via ACH require that a standardized descriptor - HCCLAIMPMT - be used to identify healthcare claims payments. In addition, the Rules amendments require healthcare claim payments to use an addenda record that carries a standardized reassociation number for Healthcare Providers to use in matching funds to remittance information. According to the data, 99.9 percent of Healthcare Payments via ACH included an addenda record.
